Dr. Joe M. King

Dr. Joe M. King is principal of Coit North Veterinary Hospital.  He focuses his practice on providing the best possible veterinary care for your pets. “We have a saying around here,” explains Dr. King, “If it can fit through our front door, we can take care of it.”  Dogs, cats, birds, small animals and even reptiles (but not poisonous ones) are welcome.

Dr. King grew up on a dairy farm in Mineola, Texas and was inspired by the veterinarians that cared for his family’s animals. He attended Texas A&M University, earning a B.S. and DVM in Veterinary Sciences. He began his career in 1979, when he opened his first private practice, North Carrollton Veterinary Hospital. Later, Dr. King became the hospital administrator for the Veterinary Referral Center of North Texas. He managed this facility which housed five specialty practices and an international veterinary reference laboratory.

A member of the Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. King has served as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Board Member at Large. He is the current Chairman of the judging committee for special projects of the Dallas Morning News/Toyota regional Science Fair Competition. He is former President of the Board of Directors for Emergency Pet Hospital of North Texas. He has served as a political committee director for the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. He is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association.

Dr. King is a former member of the Carrollton City Council. He is also the former Chairman of the Carrollton Bond Election Committee, which was appointed by the mayor and council members to propose infrastructure projects, street improvements and other issues funded by the approval of citizens of Carrollton in a bond election. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Carrollton/Farmer’s Branch from 1984 until 2005. He served as member of the Board of Directors, Chairman-Vocational Service Committee. Dr. King has also been a Paul Harris Fellow.

At Texas A&M University, Dr. King played quarterback for the football team and received the Aggie Heart award. He is still affiliated with A&M as a member of the 12th Man Foundation, the Former Students Association and the Texas A&M University Letterman’s Association. He is in the Yale University Parents Club of Dallas and a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Plano.
